TeachResiliency.ca provides crucial mental health resources

TeachResiliency.ca, a new public online portal, offers easy-to-use tools and strategies to promote both teacher and student mental well-being.

Of the five million school-aged children across Canada, 20% will suffer from a mental health condition. A typical Canadian classroom can now expect to have at least four children who need extra mental health support, presenting a clear need for improved mental health resources in classrooms.

Physical and Health Education (PHE) Canada, along with supporting partner The Co-operators and program partners, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and University of Western Ontario – Centre For School Mental Health, launched TeachResiliency.ca in May 2017.

“Through our research we identified a significant gap in education”, said Brian Storey, PHE Canada president and CEO. “This gap has provided an opportunity to make a positive impact on the mental health and well-being of students and teachers across the country – and TeachResiliency.ca is a great first step in this effort.”

The public, online portal helps teachers assess resilience needs and provides resources to promote and enhance both teacher and student mental well-being. Teach Resiliency features more than 150 evidence-based mental health resources, 20+ videos and podcasts, tip sheets and more. It covers a range of mental health matters to support teachers and their students.

As a co-operative insurer, we have a responsibility to help build stronger, safer communities. We’re focused on mental health, which is one of the reasons why Excellence Canada awarded us the gold certification for Mental Health at Work.

In addition to the Teach Resiliency program, we support our communities through a number of programs and initiatives with organizations like Kids Help Phone and the Canadian Mental Health Association.

TeachResiliency.ca is open to the public. We encourage teachers, students and parents to check it out and learn more about mental health resiliency.
